New Duds

I mentioned that earlier this fall I went to the corny state, and part of the weekend included a large shopping marathon.  We weren't really planning to do quite that much shopping, but when Bex asked if I needed to shop for anything, I told her I did, and things got out of hand.  But I really did need to buy some new stuff because I've had to trash at least 3 shirts in the past year.  Bex and Karmx were my personal shoppers.  I think they did a pretty good job, and I managed to keep a good attitude most of the time.

If I were into clubbing, then I would have purchased this shirt to wear clubbing.  Maybe I should have purchased it so I could wear it for clubbing baby seals.  :-)

That's a lot of bags!

"The haul".  You may notice a general color tendency.  And yes, the lower right is the "pajama and old-fashioned" shirt.

Table Talk

From several years ago when I had a large tree cut down in my yard, I have a relatively large slab of wood, and I feel like I shouldn't waste it.  I should do something useful with it.  Below are a couple pictures of the slab itself.  I measured it once, but I don't have the dimensions here right now.  I think it's approximately 50" x 12" x 3".  I thought the slab was from an ash tree, but a couple people have said they think it looks like oak.  It's either ash or oak, I know that for sure.  One guy at work told me the two look very similar.

Here is what the slab looks like in its existing rough form:

I'm thinking I would like to make this into a hall table of some kind.  It would actually go in my living room and not my hall, but that's beside the point.  I'm thinking I would put my stereo on it.  The other idea I've heard is that I could turn it into a mantle, but that would involve putting anchors into my fireplace, and I'm not sure I want to mess with that.

Maybe next post I'll post a picture of my fireplace area and the area where I'm thinking I'll put the table to help you visualize some stuff.

So.....if you have ideas, let me know.  Post a link to an example or e-mail me a picture or something.  Here are some examples of some of the designs I found on the internet that I like.  I like contrasting colors, the lower second shelf (often with slats), and often a bit of a "mission" style.  You might see the theme in these pictures.

Late Fall Stuff

I need to make a Thanksgiving post soon, but here are a few other things going on this fall.

I've been working on cleaning my office up so my laptop can be more easily used at my office desk.  I was finally successful and finished filing and straightening one weekend in November.  Check out how neat it looks.  How neat is that?  That's pretty neat.  It's a little messier now, but I can still see the top of the desk, so that's good.

Freshly organized desk.
This is one of my new shirts from a shopping spree this fall.  It's kind of an interesting shirt because it gets a lot of comments and different opinions.  One guy at work says he thinks it looks like pajamas.  One lady at work says it's kind of an old-fashioned pattern, but she likes it.  One of my co-workers from India gave me the thumbs-up saying he liked it.  What do you think? (other than giving an opinion on my serious face)

New shirt - opinions?

Of course leaves must be raked in the fall.  Lots of people are always talking about how they just mulch their leaves with the mower and don't bother raking.  Yeah......I think when the leaves are this thick, it would kill my grass if I attempted that trick.  And this isn't even all of the leaves.  I had raked one other time earlier in the fall.

That's all for now.  Have a lovely Sunday.
