Sweet Suite
Yep, I installed these babies myself (with some help from some friends at work who helped deliver them and manhandle them into the basement). I'm not sure if those guys are still my friends or not. ;-) They're the Whirlpool Duet Sport laundry pair. They're the slightly smaller version of the original Duets, but no less powerful of course.
Installing these got me to thinking, "Why do we almost always put the washer on the left and the dryer on the right?" I figure by now it's pretty much industry standard and makes construction, plumbing, electrical wiring, appliance manufacturing (default door swing), etc. easier and cheaper, but who decided that would be the industry standard? Is it because we read from left to right, so people figure they should also do laundry left to right? Does that mean the ancient Chinese did their laundry from right to left? In Europe, they must be confused about which way to go because the majority of people there don't even have a dryer. Maybe they install their clothesline to the right of the washer?

I'm one of the "odd" ones. My washer is on the right, dryer on the left. I also wash dishes from the right to the left!

Guess it runs in the family! My dryer is also on the left, but I do wash dishes left to right!
(I do know WHY my washer is on the right - at one time it needed to be next to the sink for the suds saver drain!)

Well, maybe it's not so uncommon! Our washer is also on the right, dryer on the left. And I wash dishes right to left as well... :o)
at my parents' place, the washer is on the right and the dryer on the left, but when the doors are open, they abut each other. this makes for not very easy transferral from the washer to the dryer, as the soggy clothes have to be lugged either up over the doors, or around (which typically results in several socks dropping on the floor).
I'd say that it was a good idea to go washer on the left & dryer on the right.
Not only that---but DEFINITELY a 'sweet suite'. Very cool.
We'll miss you this week when we're at Medora---but maybe you'll have to come out if anyone decides to come & visit Glacier this year when I'm in the neighboring field!
Ooooooo....this set it pretty!! :) Happy Laundry Days to YOU! :)
Esther again. For the gal whose parents have washer and dryer doors that open to the center - I believe they might be able to reverse the way they open. My washer and dryer doors can both open both ways.
