They Arrived

On Friday, they arrived! Who/what are they? "They" are my new glasses. It's highly irregular for me to get two new pairs in two years, but that's what you can do when you're independently wealthy (or your insurance pays for part of them). So anyway, these glasses have a bit of a story attached.

Before I hit the road on my Christmas vacation journey, I had good intentions to get the eye exam that my insurance covers most of, but as usual I procrastinated and didn't get it done. So, I set out on my journey and happened to stay at my cousin's house in Wisconsin. The story is a bit longer if I tell the whole thing, but I'll cut to the chase and say that I got a VIP eye exam at 10:00 PM that night at the Verona Vision Center with the qualified Tami Hunt, O.D. examining. I picked out my new glasses after my eyes were dilated and things were a bit blurry, but I was told they make me look more sophisticated than my old ones (by the doctor selling me the glasses). Judge for yourself.

New Glasses (Yes, I'm very excited about them.)

New Glasses with the clip-on sunglasses (and me putting on my gangsta face)

Old Glasses (for your reference in determining level of improvement)

Note: Although this is A red sweater, it is not THE red sweater.

I agree with the doctor. I like them.

If I couldn't read the letters below would I still be able to comment. If not, seems it would be discrimation of the visually impaired! So what's the reason? Any ideas?

I LIKE the new glasses!!! I'd say I like them better than the old ones, so good choice. :)
By the way, when did you get so into red sweaters?

Anna...wasn't it a red sweater that Mel asked our opinion on in regards to what shirt to wear with it? I think so, but maybe I'm wrong. Mel, you'd better address this situation. It's dire.

Can I use the word "dire" the way I just did? I think so, but I don't know and I'm too tired to figure it out.

It was opinions on a shirt that would be best fitting to accompany THE red sweater that she asked about awhile ago...and if the present one pictured is not THE red sweater, that means she has at least 2 red sweaters now. That surprises me a little bit......

OK, I'll try to clear up all the mysteries.

Esther, you have to type in those letters so that I don't get "junk" comments. The letters are an image that automated junk comment programs find difficult to circumvent.

Jen, you can use dire in that manner. "It" (implying "the situation") is the subject of the sentence, "is" is the verb (linking verb to be exact), and "dire" is the object of the sentence (can also be called the subject complement).

Anna, you are correct that I do own two red sweaters, but only two. Although I did buy an orange one recently too. I'm not sure why I bought them, I just did. I guess I'm trying to add some color to my life. I need to branch out from blue and green occasionally. And, I keep track of the read sweater on my blog just for fun. It's kins of like "Where's Waldo".

Once again, Mel, you crack me up! :) Thanks for clarifying things for all of us!

And thanks for the bit you wrote to Esther! I never really knew what those letters were all about and I've always despised them, but I think that they would have come in handy a few times already!

Should I comment or keep quiet?

"Dire" is not the object of the sentence. Subject complement was pretty close though! It's actually a predicate adjective. :)

You really need to practice on that gangsta look! :)
