Fresh Bullets

I haven't done a bulleted list in a while, so maybe I'll try that.

  • Today was one of two days in the year when my cube turns from an ice box into a sauna.  Quite often one of the days is in the fall when it's been cooler and then is suddenly much warmer outside one day.  The reverse usually happens in the spring.
  • This was also the second day in the past week when I felt like I was a highway construction worker. They're fixing the roof at work, which apparently involves a whole lot of tar/asphalt, hammering, and drilling.  The resulting fumes then get sucked in by the air handling system (the same one that wasn't working so well today).
  • Three cheers - there wasn't a line when I went to vote today at 7:15 AM.
  • I turned my ankle a bit when I was warming up to play racquetball today.  The disappointing thing is that it used to be my "good" ankle.  I'll have to start doing some flamingo exercises to help strengthen my ankles now.
  • Why is it necessary to reduce the swelling on an injury?  If it's your body's natural response to injury, why shouldn't you just let it do its thing?  Does swelling prevent or accelerate healing?
  • News of bad health/luck seems to be the rage lately.  A friend here has a burst appendix, and Ananias misplaced her elbow.  I believe it has been located again.
  • Fall seems like it's speeding by at lightning speeds.  August, September, and October all just flew by.  November is also shaping up to be a bit busy as well.  Will this train ever slow down?
  • I should do a post for my guests this past weekend, but I haven't downloaded my pictures yet, so I'll hold off on that.
  • When I have a time limit on making a purchase, I waffle a lot less and am much quicker at making a decision.  Especially if the deadline is today.
  • I didn't mean for this post to be so gloomy, but that's kind of how it turned out.  I'm actually in a pretty good mood today despite feeling stressed because I have a lot of "people" time and a presentation for work coming up this week.
  • Today was beautifully sunny - actually, much of the past week has been.
Farm out, peeps.

totally hilarious description of my elbow problem!
(and the flamingo exercises).....
surgery went fine & right now my ENTIRE arm is numb & limp - a good thing for initial pain control it seems.

First, I am sorry that Sis had the misfortune of loosing her elbow. I'm subbing for a teacher that had the same problem...she had surgery yesterday and I think they wired it or pinned it so it would stay "located". Time does go fast. A couple days ago the Nov. calendar was empty except for an overloaded Thanksgiving, which meant that I would have lots of time to clean in preparation the the occassion. Now the month is filling up and I know the cleaning will take a "back seat". :-( You take care, Linda

"Will this train ever slow down?"

Highly unlikely. My experience is it only goes faster and faster. But I have heard that if you live to be a lot older than I am the days might start creeping by.

My own personal theory on the relative speed of time vs age.

Remember when you were little, and summer lasted forever, and if someone said you could do something really exciting next week, you thought you would die before next week got there?

There's the problem. You used up approximately 70% of your available time before age 10. All the rest of the years that you live have to fit into the remaining 30%. They MUST go fast, just to come out even!

The thing with swelling, I don't know if it's a "natural" reaction so to speak, it's a reaction due to breaking blood vessels etc in the area and it allows the fluid to leak out causing the swelling the less you keep the swelling the less pressure it puts on the nerves etc (for pain). After the swelling goes down and a few days then you can start using heat to promote the blood flow. If you keep letting the swelling occur (fluids escaping) then the longer it will take to heal. In other words, bleeding is a "natural" reaction to getting your artery cut too... don't think you want to let that go on too long either! :)
