Stuff and Things Update
We had strong winds here from Thursday evening through Saturday morning. When I woke up Friday morning, this is what I saw in my neighbor's yard (see below). It fell towards my house, but luckily missed it. I didn't have any damage - just a lot of branches and leaves on my lawn.
On Saturday I was doing yard work and cutting back a bunch of overgrown growth. See the picture below of one of the bushes I was working on cutting back. I have not idea what it is. Do you? I would say it was at least 8 feet tall and working on getting taller. Some of my research on the internet suggests it may be red currant, but I'm not totally convinced since the pictures on the internet showed the red berries in more of a grape bunch formation, and these ones don't quite have that shape. But, the leaves are kind of shaped right.
Today was the annual UM-potluck-croquet day. I tried making chicken and rice in the crock pot for it, and it turned out well if I do say so myself. This was only the second time I've made chicken and rice, and the first time I had made it in the crock pot.
It's 63 degrees in the house right now, but I'm not turning on the furnace yet. I suppose I will be considerate to my weekend company and turn it on before Friday if it's still chilly. The good news is it's supposed to be back in the 70's later this week.

UB isn't sure if she can handle 63° inside, but she says she'll try.
If you find out about the red berries, inform me. There are some in our neighborhood, but the birds don't eat them, so it makes me suspicious.
Sounds like you haven't had the best of weather. Do you have an extension agent anywhere near you that might know what kind of berries you have. We had red currents in my growing up years and those remind me of them, but don't remember what the leaves looked like. We did eat them. Take good care, linda
