2024 Taxes Filed

My 2024 taxes have been filed.  I did my usual data analysis and reflection.  I had to pay significant sums to both the federal government and the state this year, mostly because the stock market did well last year and my capital gains were bigger than they have been in previous years.  First world problems.  We had a bonus last year, but it wasn't a huge one, so my income still did not compare to the glory years of 2021 and 2022.

All taxes combined (federal, state, social security, medicaid, and property taxes) take a shocking 25% of my income.

As a generally healthy person, my insurance costs are less than 4% of my income, and that includes my withholdings for my HSA.  And usually I spend less from my HSA than I put in each year.  My pre-tax insurance costs have been holding steady with my High Deductible Health Plan.  I'm guessing because with a high deductible, most of the basic things are paid out of pocket, so the plan is only paying for the unhealthy or more catastrophic accidents or illnesses.
