Nothing To See Here
Hmmmm.....I don't have anything to say today. You might as well move on to the next blog.
OK, maybe I do have one thought for the day now that I think about it. I participated in interviewing someone yesterday, and we reviewed our thoughts on the candidate today. On one hand I hate interviewing people, but on the other it's morbidly fascinating.
How are you expected to accurately assess a person's technical skills, social skills, communication skills, life situation, and personality in a brief half hour or hour interview? And, this brief first impression can sometimes make or break someone's career. That's the part I hate. The fascinating part is that you can learn an awful lot about a person in such a short period of time. What would be even more fascinating to know is how accurate those first impressions are and how accurate this information you "know" is.

I once was hired because the interviewer and I had gotten into a friendly conversation wherein she, in a very indirect and unintentional way, discovered my age, and then worried that if I wasn't given the job I would file a suit claiming age discrimination! Of course, such a thought would never have occurred to my simple and straightforward way of thinking, and lucky for them I turned out to be a valuable asset to the department =)
Just dropping by to leave a comment, since I haven't left a comment for quite some time...although I do read your blog frequently.
I LOVE to interview people!! It's true, though...you HATE to be the interviewee but it is rather fascinating to be the interviewer! :o) Make 'em squirm, Mel! Put the pressure on and THEN see how they react! It might help for future work meetings! Ha! :)
