If You're Not From The Prairie...

When I was back home where I grew up this past weekend, I was reminded of the book "If You're Not From the Prairie", which was written by David Bouchard and and Henry Ripplinger. The line I was reminded of from the book was "If you're not from the prairie, you don't know the wind, you can't know the wind." The wind was blowing incessantly while I was there, but to me it's part of being home and almost like seeing an old friend. Anyway, if you haven't read this book, I would recommend it, especially if you grew up on the prairie. It summarizes the growing up experience very well.

On another note, what is the point of summer if inside every building it feels like the arctic? At the place I've been at for work the last couple days, I have to put my coat on to go inside and take it off to go outside, where the temperature has pleasantly been in the 80's.

I agree with the cold buildings. I have been working in Texas and they have a saying where they air condition texas style. In other words you FREEZE! Has anyone heard of a pleasant 70 degrees?

Hey, Henry Ripplinger is actually our neighbor! He has an art gallery in Regina that is really neat. We really like that book too.

i agree- after a year in cali without AC i kinda got used to when its hot outside its hot inside- didnt mind it at all! but somepeople go WAY overboard with bringing on the artic feeling- especiall hospitals. i wear layers at work now!

great book, I'd agree!
I'd recommend visiting Regina, the gallery, etc as well. :)
It's handy that there are so many states with wind & prairie, so lots of folks can be involved with the experience in one way or another. Some love the prairie & always will, while others are yet working on their appreciation of prairie beauty.
Oh well.
