(Not) So Mundane

Hi there - the last two weeks here have been fairly normal yet not totally.  For example, my water heater went kaput Thursday or Friday at some point.  I discovered this on Friday night at 10:00 PM when I went to take my shower.  Because the tub is on the other end of the house from the hot water heater, I usually have to run the water for 30 seconds or a minute before the water gets warm.  I ran it that long and it was still very cold.  Uh-oh.....nothing else to do at that point once you're all undressed and in the shower except to carry on and grimace and bear it.  I pretended I was camping last night.  This evening I pretended I was living in Russia and was on hot water rations.  I guess tomorrow night I'll have to pretend I'm swimming in Lake Superior.  The plumber is supposed to come Monday, so hopefully Monday night I can revel in the warm water!  Good thing it's not winter or I might never get warm again after taking an ice cold shower.  I have found my nightly routine isn't quite so relaxing when it involves a really cold shower instead of a hot shower.

Here are some pictures from the last couple weeks to illustrate some of the less usual stuff.

Last Sunday afternoon when I was a guest for lunch at Jerry and Bab's house, we saw these two.  We watched the fawn frolic in the meadow for 5 minutes or so.

The tiger lilies are blooming, and the day lilies are about to.  The hosta is flourishing.

I've rediscovered the fun of a bike ride.  Here I stopped to take a selfie on the pier.

I managed to cook my fried eggs "over medium" to perfection at lunch today.

Since I've been home the last two weekends, I've been doing lots of yard work on Saturday afternoons.  See all those fresh looking rocks in front of the hostas?  As I was hoeing the flower bed I noticed the state of that rock bed and decided I had time to address it that day.  So I did.  Now I'll have to clean up the rest of the landscaping rocks to match.  Also thanks to Father Dan for some additional rocks to supplement the ones that were already there.

Look at how evenly these socks wore out!  Paper thin (or less) on the ball of the foot and on the heels.  Symmetry is so nice.  I think these will have to go in the "need an overseas trip" pile.

Did you give any thought to heating some water and taking a BATH? :)

Eva,
I guess I did briefly consider a bath. But I'm not big on baths in the first place, and it seemed like a lot of work to heat enough water to do that. So I just went with the cold shower. If it had been winter, then I might have more seriously considered the bath.

Or even just heating a wee bit of water and taking a "spit bath", as they say. ;-)
The socks, of course, reeled me in! I'll wash those socks of you bring them to see me! B-)
